Nestled in the quiet village of Kounavi, our home offers an authentic slice of Cretan life, surrounded by vineyards and steeped in winemaking tradition. Just 15 kilometers (15 min. drive) from Heraklion, Crete’s lively capital, Kounavi perfectly balances countryside calm with easy access to the city and airport, both within a 15 to 17-minute drive.
Though inland, the village is close to Crete’s beautiful northern coastline, with golden beaches only 20 minutes away by car. The iconic Minoan Palace of Knossos, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Greece, is just 10 minutes drive, offering a glimpse into the island’s ancient past.
Kounavi itself offers essentials like a bakery, pharmacy, mini-market, gas station and cafés. Right next door is the Garakis Winery, where guests can enjoy local wine tastings and vineyard tours. The village name is even believed to come from "kanaves"—the ancient wine cellars that once thrived here.
A short drive away (8 min.), Archanes is a charming traditional village filled with stone alleys, colorful houses, and welcoming tavernas serving up Cretan specialties. Nature lovers will also find plenty to explore, from scenic trails and olive groves to nearby gorges and panoramic hikes up Mount Juktas, rumored to be the final resting place of Zeus.

How to reach Lyravista Villa
Lyravista is easily accessible from Heraklion International Airport and the town of Heraklion.
From Heraklion Airport, the villa is approximately a 16-minute drive (15.7 km). Simply follow the signs for Vorios Odikos Axonas Kritis (A90/E75), and drive towards Archanes. Once you reach Archanes, continue to Kounavi village, where the villa is centrally located. You can use the provided Google Maps link for accurate navigation.
From Heraklion town, the villa is just a short 20-minute drive. Alternatively, you can take public transportation from the Heraklion bus station (KTEL), catching a bus to Arkalochori or Kastelli, and informing the driver you're stopping at Kounavi village. The villa is a 3-minute walk from the Kounavi bus stop.
